Rays name opening day starter.

Before the Tampa Bay Rays took the field today, manager Joe Maddon spoke to the media and named the starter for opening day on April 6 against the New York Yankees.

James Shields, undoubtedly the best pitcher the Rays had in their rotation last season, will get the honors to open the season for the the team. Shields had 11 complete games last season with a 16-12 record and 2.82 ERA. He finished third in the AL Cy Young voting, named to the ALĀ  All-Star team, and was named the Rays’ MVP.
