The Buccaneers started another round of workouts this week. There were some players absent and a player not yet under contract present at One Buc to support his teammates.
To sign or not to sign?
Connor Barth was on his way to Tampa Monday night and speculation instantly grew about him signing his franchise tender or a long-term deal. Neither happened Tuesday but he was showing support for the team with his presence. Mark Dominik told the media on Tuesday a long-term deal is what both sides want.
LeGarrette Blount has had issues with dancing behind the line of scrimmage and not hitting the hole. When asked about the Bucs drafting running back Doug Martin in the first round, Blount did not dance around the question. “I think nobody can affect my carries but me,” he said. “They drafted him because we needed him. But at the end of the day, we’re both going to play.”
A trusted ‘Barber’.
Ronde Barber reportedly took the majority of reps at free safety alongside safety Mark Barron on Tuesday. This is nothing new as the team has been experimenting with Barber at safety since the new coaching staff has taken over.
After the Da’Quan Bowers injury last week, the Bucs were rumored to make another signing via free agency to help out at defensive end. However, general manager Mark Dominik shot down that idea for the time being stating the team is still evaluating the players currently on the roster.
Josh Freeman has been committed to shed some pounds during the offseason to improve his health and play on the field. On Tuesday, PewterReport.com’s editor-in-chief Mark Cook snapped a picture of the new look Freeman. You can see it here.
Taking the day off.
Player reportedly not in attendance were tight end Kellen Winslow, wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe (again), and defensive tackle Brian Price (who tweeted to forget life, in an obscene way). No reasons were given for the absences by the team because the workouts are voluntary.
*UPDATE* Brian Price was in attendance but was held out due to flu-like symptoms, per Mark Cook of PewterReport.com.
*UPDATE 5/18* Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune is confirming that Brian Price has been grieving the loss of his older sister Bridget, who passed away due to injuries from a car accident in late April.
