Rays activate Desmond Jennings from the D.L.

Desmond Jennings

As expected, the Rays officially announced they have activated outfielder Desmond Jennings after his stint on the disabled list. To make room for Jennings, the team optioned Rich Thompson to Durham.

The Rays have shuffled the top of the batting order since Jennings went down with a knee sprain on May 8th. The return will put him back as the team’s leadoff hitter and is expected to already be inserted into the starting lineup tonight against the Yankees.

Jennings may also cause a bit of a jam though. Hideki Matsui and Luke Scott will likely be bounced on and off the bench as the designated hitter. Another option can be to give Carlos Pena some rest and have Scott at first and Matsui as the DH.

Whatever the shuffling will be, you can be certain Joe knows what he’s doing.
