Buccaneers’ starting quarterback Josh McCown has taken his role of being the team’s new leader under center like a true veteran. And in typical veteran fashion, he is all embracing the role of a mentor.
Tuesday morning, head coach Lovie Smith talked about how the team has faith in Mike Glennon and speaking to the media at One Buc Place Tuesday afternoon, McCown set the bar high for his mentoring of Glennon.
“My hope one day is that Mike Glennon is a Hall of Famer,” McCown said. “I take great pride in saying you had a small part of that. He has everything out in front of him, it’s just to help him and help him get better whenever that time is. He pushes me and I’m just trying to bring him along and make him better. I think that’s good for the Bucs, that’s good for our team. Whenever you have two guys pushing and working with each other, both parties wanting the best for the team, That’s when you can capture something special. That’s the hope for Mike and I. I think he has a real bright future. I do. He’s super talented, he’s a hardworker, he’s sharp, and he’s going to have a great career.”
McCown also mentioned that he enjoys being in the quarterbacks room with Glennon, Mike Kafka and undrafted free agent Brett Smith. More importantly, he looks forward to his opportunity in starting for Tampa Bay.
