Signing cornerback Brent Grimes was one of many good offseason decisions general manager Jason Licht has made for Tampa Bay. Bringing in a talented, Pro Bowl veteran corner to a defense that needed much secondary help was a move not many expected with the team still having Alterraun Verner and Johnthan Banks still on the roster. But signing the type of player Grimes is was imperative.
Grimes has great playmaking ability. At 32 years old, he still possesses many athletic traits teams look for in players entering the league 10 years younger and that has left Buccaneers coaches overly impressed with the 10-year veteran. On Monday, Brent’s wife Miko Grimes revealed in the first episode of her podcast how impressed the Tampa Bay coaching staff has been with her husband.
“He wowed you like he does everybody else,” Miko Grimes told guest and Miami Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly as he tells the story of when he first saw Brent Grimes on the practice fields in Miami. “He told me that when he went to the Bucs his strength coach and all the players were just like ‘Oh my God you’re not even a real person. The stuff you’re doing is unreal.'”
There are many reasons to like Grimes in pewter. His work ethic and on-field attitude is what the Buccaneers need — especially on the defensive side of the ball. Add rookie Vernon Hargreaves III and this Tampa Bay secondary is looking pretty damn impressive.
