The 2016 NFL Draft is hours away. Later on this evening, the Bucs will wait their turn for the ninth overall selection as they watch potential targets fall off their boards ahead of them — much different from last year’s first overall pick. Here are some rumblings you need to know on draft day Thursday. (Will be updated throughout the day.)
- Will Jalen Ramsey slide?
Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey will be a safety in the NFL and a play a crucial position Tampa Bay has a need for and may slide. Per Peter King, there is a hesitation from teams around the league for the former Seminole. Unfortunately, I still think if he slides he won’t get by Jacksonville at No. 5. And if he does, it’ll be a miracle.
- Names to keep an eye on.
TBC has some names for you to tie in with the Bucs as their pick approaches and trade-up opportunities fade away from what we have gathered: Noah Spence, Joey Bosa, Vernon Butler, Vernon Hargreaves III, DeForest Buckner, Jack Conklin and Robert Nkemdiche. All these are “realistic” options for the team. Notice how there is no Leonard Floyd or Shaq Lawson on this list.
- Trades galore.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports feels there will be at least three more trades in the first round tonight. Many still feel there will be lots of movement in the Top 10. That may entice the Buccaneers to trade down if there are plenty of options still available not named Jalen Ramsey.
- Bucs are “open” to trading down.
Trading down has been an option often discussed and one that has been dubbed by TBC as the most likely scenario for Tampa Bay. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports has just tweeted saying that the Cleveland Browns and the Bucs are “very open” to moving down.
- Jags will draft Bosa, not Ramsey.
That is the latest from Optimum Scouting’s Eric Galko who says the Jaguars decision makers prefer to draft Joey Bosa even if Ramsey is available at No. 5. Again, this is all just a possibility. But as I have said all along Jacksonville is the wild card. If they pass on Ramsey, he will get to No. 9 unless some trades or other shennanigans happen.
