Martin was concerned about the market for RBs

Running back Doug Martin was believed by many to go and sign his big contract elsewhere — this guy included. Talking to the local press yesterday, Martin pointed to head coach Dirk Koetter and quarterback Jameis Winston among reasons he wanted to return.

But there is a bit more to that. When asked about the market for him and other backs, Martin stated on NFL Network (audio posted below) that the market for running backs was a concern and a reason why he wanted to get a deal done.

Regardless, he managed to cash in on a 5-year, $35.75M deal.

Martin hit free agency at a perfect time. It is a period where teams are currently throwing around money to players at astonishing rates (according to the experts).

Congratulations are in order for Martin, but it’ll come at his expense as he is taking the offensive line to dinner. Check it out.
