The National Football League today released its 2016 preseason slate, featuring opponent matchups and weeks, with exact game dates and times to be confirmed after the finalization of the national broadcast schedule. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will open preseason play on the road, first at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 and then at the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. Raymond James Stadium’s fresh look will be highlighted in Week 3, as the Buccaneers return to Tampa to defend their newly renovated home ground in a nationally televised game against the Cleveland Browns. The preseason then concludes with a home game against the Washington Redskins.
While Week 3 will be carried nationally on CBS, the Buccaneers’ Weeks 1, 2 and 4 games will once again be carried locally by WFLA, the team’s preseason broadcast partner.
Tampa Bay hits the road in Week 1 (August 11-15), facing Philadelphia in preseason play for only the second time in franchise history, and for the first time as the visiting team. At the teams’ only other meeting in 1982, John McKay’s Buccaneers defeated the Eagles 35-7 at Tampa Stadium. The game will also mark a meeting between two first-time NFL head coaches, Dirk Koetter and Doug Pederson.
The Buccaneers return to Florida for Week 2 (August 18-22), but travel to face the intra-state rival Jaguars. Historically, Tampa Bay is 3-7 against Jacksonville in the preseason, but the Buccaneers will look to repeat their success from 2015’s regular-season matchup, where the team secured a 38-31 victory with help from a three-touchdown performance (two rushing, one receiving) by running back Doug Martin.
On Friday, August 26 at 8:00 p.m., Tampa Bay will be featured on CBS, hosting a nationally broadcast bout against Cleveland. The home game will mark the unveiling of the first stage of Raymond James Stadium’s renovation project, the centerpiece of which will be the significantly expanded, state-of-the-art video boards in the end zones and corner towers. The Buccaneers hold an even 4-4 record against the Browns in preseason matchups.
The preseason finale will take place in Week 4 (September 1-2), when Tampa Bay will take on a familiar opponent in Washington. Over the years, the Buccaneers and Redskins have faced off 14 times in the preseason, the third-most preseason meetings between any pair in Buccaneers history. Tampa Bay will look to improve its 4-7 home record against Washington while players have their final opportunity to battle for a spot on the 53-man roster.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now offering season pass memberships at a wide variety of price points. Memberships start as low as $40 per game for adults and $20 per game for youth.
