I’ve been reporting for quite some time now how sources closes to the Buccaneers have liked Jameis Winston early on in the process and how head coach Lovie Smith came away impressed following the Rose Bowl. We now may know the Glazers are on board as well.
According to our good friend Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com, team owners are sold on the Florida State product.
After speaking with sources in Tampa Bay and around the league, we’ve learned that the Buccaneers’ owners, the Glazers, are comfortable with Winston, and they are on board with the Buccaneers drafting him with the first-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Sources say that entering the interview process, the Glazers want Winston. If he doesn’t do poorly in the interviews and stays out of trouble leading up to the draft, Winston will be the first pick. The Glazers have a huge desire for a franchise quarterback, and have wanted that asset for years. Some sources say that the Glazers believe that Winston is that caliber of quarterback, and they want him to lead a resurgence in Tampa Bay like he did at Florida State.
Several mocks and draft pundits from around the league have talked about how much of a better fit Jameis Winston is for Tampa Bay. All information that we have gathered has not gotten away from that theory.
From the accusations to the character concerns so many harp on, the final piece of the puzzle has been the Glazers. If the report holds up, there is no reason to not expect Winston in pewter.
