As Jameis Winston entered the NFL, his past transgressions were sure to follow. And while many will continue to make sure his past follows him, he is ready to move on.
“I have nothing to prove,” Winston said via the Associated Press. “I believe that people make mistakes but I also believe that you bounce back from those and I’m just moving forward.”
Moving forward will be a difficult task — more because detractors continue to bring up his past trials. Still, Winston is focused on 2015 and beyond and he is not letting the negative spotlight stand in his way.
“You can only be yourself. What people put out there on social media is just whatever. But I am just trying to be a better person and live life, and that’s all,” he said. “I mean social media can help you in so many ways, from a positive standpoint. I can’t control what people put on social media about me, but I can control my actions and what I do.”
The tabloids got wind of his outing (with fellow teammates with him) at a local Mexican restaurant this past week. They made a big deal about him buying a shot for a young lady celebrating her birthday there. Bucs defensive lineman Larry English was one of those teammates and he took some time to take pictures with the group attending the birthday celebration.
But it was Winston’s actions, for whatever reason, that took center stage for the tabloid publication. It’s this type of adversity Winston will eventually overcome with time.
