Winston predicted to have a historically awful season

Predictions have been coming out from several outlets for the upcoming NFL season. While many predict a slightly better 2015 season over 2014 for the Buccaneers, it’s not a stretch to say that rookie quarterback Jameis Winston will see his fair share of ups and downs this year.

But to say he will have that most interceptions thrown by a quarterback in a single season since Vinny Testaverde (h/t JoeBucsFan), is a stretch. And that’s exactly what CBS Sports’ Will Brinson is predicting.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 6 wins
Over (Even) / Under (-130)

Are you on or off the Jameis Winston bandwagon? Ultimately that’s how you decide where you go with this. Seven wins isn’t crazy for the Bucs but I’m not buying Winston as a guy who can come in and win a ton of games for Tampa Bay. I think he’s the most “pro ready” quarterback in this class and will probably have more immediate success than Marcus Mariota, but I also think he’s going to throw 30 interceptions. Yes, THIRTY. Having Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson on the roster is a big plus. Lavonte David might be the most underrated defensive player in the league, Gerald McCoy is a stud and this defense should be better than last year. But the schedule is slotted out poorly for a strong season from this team. Lots of back-to-back road games against tough teams and pairs of home games. I see six as the top end here.

A 6-10 record is reasonable and fair. But 30 interceptions is quite the exaggeration.

Perhaps it’s a believable prediction, depending on who you speak with. The 20 interception number may be uttered by some but for all we know he can also throw the fewest interceptions by any rookie quarterback ever.

As far as his Mariota reference, he didn’t put a number to how well or poor the second overall draft will play in 2015. However, he did say the Tennessee Titans could have “a surprising start” to their season as they play the Bucs in Week 1.

So it seems like Brinson is also predicting an 0-1 start to the Bucs season.

Winston's initial pro season will in part be determined largely by his offensive line and a hopefully..improved running game. If however he has to throw over 50% of the time trying to play catch up. Then we are indeed in Big Trouble. 8-8 or 9-7 is not out of the question if things fall into place.
